ANTHEM BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD’S PARENT COMPANY TO ACQUIRE CIGNA CORPORATION

On July 24, 2015 Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s parent company announced that it entered into a definitive agreement with Cigna Corporation, under which Anthem will acquire Cigna in a cash and stock transaction.

Anthem’s press release noted they ’will offer a broader spectrum of personally relevant, high-quality, high-value products and services that exceed consumer expectations, and ensure as many consumers as possible have access to quality, affordable health care’.

They also emphasized that the acquisition will not alter any current contractual relationships and they will continue to operate “business as usual”.
